Cycling

Throughout Cumbria there is an expanding network of cycle routes – from challenging off-road tracks to traffic-free, family trails. Many of these are signed and mapped, including the recently launched Bay Cycle Way in the South Lakes.

There are also several other long distance national or regional cycle trails that link to the Lakes & Dales Loop which could give you a great excuse to extend your cycling adventure!

Cumbria Bike FestMountain Biking

Cumbria lends itself to mountain biking, with enticing bridleways leading up and over the fells, offering spectacular views and thrilling descents. And what’s more – these routes can be ridden most of the year round due to the well-drained rocky surfaces!

Some of the best purpose-built mountain biking trails in the country can be found at Whinlatter Forest and Grizedale Forest . These vary from extreme black runs to family off-road rides.

There are also lots of mountain bike guides with off-the-shelf or tailor-made trips and training packages available. Plus general cycle tour/holiday operators.
